Raised about 1780 in Normandy, France, the English name probably arose because it arrived via the Channel Islands. A vigorous tree, produces wonderful small fruit which are sweet, juicy and with a flavour to rival Doyenne de Comice. Very heavy crops, can require thinning, and an excellent garden variety. Self-sterile
