The Perfect Pear

Pears from your own garden are hard to beat. What makes them even better is the fact that the trees are extremely simple to care for and just require some basic yearly pruning to offer up bumper harvests of delicious fruits. You will need a sheltered and sunny space that offers protection from frost and wind. Cordon or espalier trees trained against a wall or fence are a good option for unsheltered gardens. Pears should be picked just before they are fully ripe. They continue to ripen in storage, so benefit from being kept for a week or two before consumption. Once you’ve tasted these sweet, succulent fruits from your own tree, you’ll never look back!
