Out of stock
Blue Jay is a very vigorous grower with a heavy fruit set. It has an upright growth habit and is very easy to establish. Produces clusters of white, waxy, bell-shaped flowers and heavy yields of medium-large fruit with a good mild flavour. It is one of the best varieties for all purposes; eating fresh, freezing, cooking & preserves. The attractive elliptical mid-green leaves turn orange/red in autumn. Mid season. Eventual height: 1.8m (6ft). Eventual spread: 1.5m (5ft). Cropping season: August. Self fertile, but cross pollination will encourage a greater yield.
Plant 1.5m (5ft) apart in rows 2m (6ft) apart.
Plant in an open sunny spot in a moist acid, but well-drained soil. Can also be sucessfully grown in pots with ericaceous compost.
